Henry Ford: A Driven Automotive Revolutionary
At the turn of the twentieth century, the automobile, a creation of the late eighteen hundreds, was laboriously and slowly produced one at a time, making them too expensive for the working class.
In 1903 the Ford Motor Company gave itself the goal of creating automobiles that were inexpensive enough for the everyman to purchase. His Model T's were originally sold for $950, but they soon dropped in price to an eventual low of $280. Over 15,000,000 of these simple, utilitarian machines were sold in the United States alone.
The revolutionary manufacturing techniques that were refined by Ford created the modern world of manufacturing. The breakthrough in rapidly and efficiently assembling cars came when Ford integrated the conveyer belt with assembly line production to create constantly moving assembly lines. By 1914 a car could be assembled in 93 minutes, revolutionizing automotive manufacturing.
